Australia is set to get its first e-tax in a bid to create a nation-wide electronic goods recycling scheme. The industry-backed tax is set to go before government ministers this month.
The tax will legislate that all importers and resellers of computer and television equipment include a mandatory recycling fee at the point of sale.

Key environmental and industry bodies have called for the urgent introduction of mandatory recycling for consumer electronic waste, with the release of a joint declaration today.
"The absence of a comprehensive national computer equipment take-back and recycling scheme for consumers is causing the unnecessary dumping of equipment in landfill," said the Australian Information Industry Association and Total Environment Centre, a conservation group.
