ITU Nets $55 Billion for Connect Africa Launch

The launch of Connect Africa has raised US$55 billion in project funding, according to the secretary general of the International Telecommunication Union, Hamadoun Touré.

Touré has been promoting the Connect Africa initiative, aimed at bringing together governments, the private sector and other partners to implement projects for the continent's ICT (Information Communications Technology) infrastructure. The initiative was launched in October at a summit in Kigali, Rwanda.
