Aussies spend 32,000 years chatting on the phone

Australians collectively spent an astonishing 17 billion minutes making and taking calls on mobile phones in the past financial year - and that's just Telstra customers.

It's the equivalent of more than 32,000 years spent chatting - almost double the amount of mobile phone time Telstra users clocked up just five years ago. And when we're not talking, we're texting.

Telstra's annual usage figures revealed its 9.8 million mobile phone customers sent more than 12 billion SMS texts in the 2011-2012 financial year - or about 33 million every day.
