Telstra intensifies Australian 4G race

Telstra is exploring a push into ultra-fast "LTE advanced" technology, as it looks to extend its 4G dominance over rival carriers.
The nation's dominant telco switched on Australia's first "4G" or "LTE" (long term evolution) network, which covers about 40 per cent of the population last October. But in recent weeks its rivals Optus and Vodafone have outlined plans to catch up.
LTE is a more cost effective and efficient technology capable of delivering speeds on mobile devices previously only available over a fixed line connection, and twice as fast as its predecessor, 3G.
