The war against piracy, which almost brought the music industry to its knees and poses a serious threat to the television, movie and even news industries, will be won by industry giants working together, says one of the music industry's most powerful executives.
Max Hole, chief operating officer of Universal Music Group International, said governments needed to do more to protect the interests of content creators, while content owners should do more to meet the needs of consumers in an era where content was no longer owned so much as accessed. "We have had a major piracy issues . . . and we are approaching the point where the (music) business is probably half as big as it was," Mr Hole said.
