Opinion: Surfing the Surfer

Judging by a flurry of recent privacy disasters to hit Silicon Valley, the brave new world of Web 2.0 has a new patron saint. Marshall McLuhan and Ayn Rand are out; Franz Kafka is in.

No, the Internet doesn't turn any of us into bugs yet (its own bugs still suffice). But the absurdity of our daily interactions with the leading technology companies -- those believers in the idea that on the Internet no pair of eyeballs should go unpunished -- would certainly delight a modern-day Kafka.
